Work-at-home jobs are becoming very common these days. But switching from an office environment to the comfort of your own home can be difficult. If you want to be efficient and effective at your job you should learn how to work from home.

At home when you’re working, there will be many distractions, less accountability, and less communication. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t be productive and efficient.

There are many ways to keep yourself working productively from your home. If you are working from home every day, these tips will help you to get the most out of your work hours.

Stay productive while working from home

1.Manage regular work hours

One of the most important and basic things for working from home is to create a regular schedule for yourself. It’s essential to give yourself total flexibility. You should take breaks while working from home.

However, if you don’t keep your schedule regular, you’re doing yourself a disservice. It will keep you accountable to yourself and to your boss. It helps you to get all your work done. Also, it makes it convenient for people to get in touch with you.

One of the main misconceptions about working from home is that you will do all your work in your pajamas on a laptop in bed. You can do this, but it’s is not ideal for you.

The process of physically getting ready for remote work (having breakfast, brushing your teeth, getting dressed, etc.) also helps you mentally get ready for a productive day. You do not have to put on a full-dress suit. But you should still wear work clothes.

3.Design your own workspace

If you don’t have a dedicated space for office, it’s essential to create one. Having a designated office space in your home helps you get into the “office” mindset.

You can use an actual desk or office space in your home. Ideally, your workspace should have a door, so you can remove any distractions. Similarly, it should have s all the supplies and equipment you may need close at hand, such as a computer, printer, and paper. You should choose a well-lit room and comfortable seating to enhance productivity.

4.Make plans and lists

If you want to have more productivity while doing work from home one surefire way is to get smart about planning your workday. Keep a note of your daily tasks with detailed to-do lists. 

You should take 5-15 minutes at the start of each workday to write down what you’d like to do for the day. Also, write down which important tasks need to be done by the end of the week. Cross off each completed task to get energized for the next task.  You should also add any meetings or calls you’re participating in. This will help you in the next morning to get a good start.

5.Stay in touch with co-workers

You have meetings with colleagues and clients several times a week in the office. When you are working from a remote area, you’ll not able to get those small interactions by the coffee machine or casual catch-ups in the lift.

Being alone is a difficult adjustment, but the best way to tackle this problem is to stay in contact with everyone as normal.  You should schedule in team conference calls, or embrace video calling and webcams. In this way, you can feel like you’re still with people, even when not physically.

Informal chats and virtual coffee breaks are also very important for a healthy routine.  Motivate your colleagues to do the same! It will help keep your company culture healthy too. Also, call a friend or family member during your lunch break, and arrange in Face meeting after hours so you can stay connected in real life too.

6.Take breaks

You can only work for a limited time. If you really want to be productive and efficient, consider taking regular breaks. It will help your mind to get recharge. Similarly, take longer breaks to interact with others, too. Spend some time playing with the kids, take a walk with your partner, or talk to your parents to see how they’re doing.  You should take your mind off of work for a bit, to help yourself energize.

7.Limit distractions

Contrary to famous opinion, you might find it easier to lose focus when you’re by yourself than when you’re surrounded by colleagues. You could find yourself tempted to scroll through your Facebook feed or.

If you have a smartphone, don’t use it while you’re working and consider signing out of your social media accounts from your phone. You will be able to stay productive by limiting social media distractions while working from home.

8.Be Your Own Janitor

You will not have a janitor to clean up after you unlike in the office. It means you have to do this task yourself. Keeping your home office clean helps you stay focused and be productive. Making a weekly cleaning schedule can help you keep on top of cleaning your home, so you won’t be worry to clean during work hours.

9.Keep yourself healthy

Your personal health is the most important aspect of how productive you are during work from home. If you use all day at home sitting at a desk for weeks or months at a time, eventually your health is going to start degrading.

You should also know this fact that staring at a screen all day is harmful to your eyes, even with blue light filters and other protective measures. You should take a few seconds to look away from your screen every 15 minutes.

The best part of any workdays is the end, and sometimes while working from home it can feel like you’re always on the duty. But this is not the case. No one can work productively and efficiently for 12 hours a day. Also, taking “you time” at the end of every day is very important to your mental health. As I mentioned before, you should change out of your work clothes, move to another part of the house.
